Big Crab, Little Crab

By Henry H. Mitchell, October 2010.

In the first video at right, a large Blue Crab is seen in a tidal pool just above the tide line. The crab's body is about 7 inches across, and its leg span is much larger than that. Obviously, it does not appreciate being disturbed! (See also much more information about the Blue Crab.)

In the lower video at right, a small Ghost Crab is seen in the same zone as the above Blue Crab, but on open sand rather than in the tidal pool. This crab is only a little over an inch across, legs and all. Its response to human presence is elusive rather than combative. (See also a more detailed article on Ghost Crabs.)
