In the 1920s, Montgomery Ward and Company made it possible for thousands of families to own their own homes by offering customers plans and materials at low prices. This meticulous reproduction of their 1925 catalog provides an authentic view of American houses from that period. There are floor plans as well as exterior and interior views for 80 Wardway homes, among them a handsome, three-story frame residence with six bedrooms; a comfortable bungalow with two large bedrooms; and a three-room cottage measuring 18 feet by 22 feet.
More than 90 illustrations include photographs of handsome stairways, French doors, and built-in linen closets. Also depicted are detached garages, cast-iron radiators, lighting fixtures, kitchen sinks, bathroom plumbing, and other amenities. Of value to home restorers and preservationists, this volume will appeal to lovers of older homes and architecture from a bygone era.
