The Athens Welcome Center (see official website), located in the historic Church-Waddel-Brumby House at 280 East Dougherty Street, is the logical first stop on a visit to Athens. A convenient source of visitor information, the Center also offers a gift shop and house museum.
When visiting the gift shop at the Welcome Center, be sure to see their selection of Inkling Series books on American food history, by Patricia B. Mitchell, sponsor of this web guide to Athens.
The Athens Welcome Center is administered by the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation.
On the grounds of the Athens Welcome Center is found “Dawg House,” a sculpture by artist Charlotte House, provided by patron Athens Board of Realtors. It is one of many examples from the Athens-Oconee Junior Woman's Club's We Let the Dawgs Out Project spotlighting the University of Georgia Bulldogs.
