On a rainy day, two of a threesome of mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) patrol the gutter on Pelican Avenue for morsels.
Mallard Lake? Actually, this photo was taken three blocks south of Mallard Lake Drive. The rain is over, and the mallards — two males and a female — are enjoying a just-barely-big-enough puddle.
Having exhausted the culinary and entertainment resources of the puddle, the mallards turn their attention to the much larger and more promising swash between between Hemlock and Pelican Avenues.
Now their prospects seem endless!
