Nancy Lee Shelton Bumgarner, age 76, of 233 Fairview Road, Chatham, Virginia, died Sunday, February 7, 2010, at Stratford Health Care Center in Danville, Virginia.
She was born on April 9, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, and was the daughter of the late Grover C. Shelton and the late Nancy Crawley Shelton.
She was a lifelong member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. She served as choir director for 22 years.
Mrs. Bumgarner worked as a Deputy Clerk for the Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Clerk's Office and for the Star-Tribune for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Carroll Bumgarner of the residence; one daughter, Melody B. Van Der Hyde and her husband, Mark of Midlothian; two sons, Lee Shelton Bumgarner of Midlothian, and Kirk Patton Bumgarner and his wife, Sonya of Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Mark Aaron and his wife, Cassandra, Annie Lee and Benjamin William Van Der Hyde, Chelsea Elizabeth, Lauren Paige and Caroline Grace Bumgarner; one great-grandchild, Amelia Jean Van Der Hyde; two sisters, Hilda S. Johnson of Alabama, Dorothy S. Anderson of Chesapeake.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Marjorie Shelton Robertson and one brother, Grover C. Shelton, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at Mill Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 10, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Harris, and the Rev. James Bullock officiating. Burial will be at Shelton Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 9, from 7:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence.
