Unabridged Dover (2004) republication of Homes and Cottages, Book No. 7, A Collection of House and Cottage Designs Containing 57 Designs (there was an error in the original title: there are 56 designs), published by D. S. Hopkins, Architect, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 1893. More than 165 black-and-white illustrations. vi + 58pp. 9 x 12 inches. Paperbound. ISBN 0-486-43593-8.
The popularity and demand for housing plans in the late nineteenth century inspired a Michigan architect to publish a series of designs with floor plans. This complete reprint of D. S. Hopkins' charming, turn-of-the-century collection includes 56 stylist designs for private homes, ranging from a frame, two-story cottage with a library, three bedrooms, and a servant's room, costing $1,000, to a two-story house with a vestibule, five bedrooms, four fireplaces, and one-and-a-half bathrooms, priced at $3,300.
Scores of black-and-white illustrtions reveal the variety of architectural styles available in a volume that will be invaluable to house restorers, preservationists, and architectural historians.
